6 Logical Levels Towards Making NLP a Winner in Marketing

October 25th, 2007 by john

Alastair KiddYour 6 logical levels towards making NLP a winner in marketing are ways that can help you understand change from an individual, social or organisation point of view. They are used in modelling to help find out, from the person you are trying to model , how they think.

When Alastair Kidd, my coach and NLP Master Practitioner started to talk about modelling we knew it would be a valuable technique to use in marketing. I could see that a good way to succeed is to find out what makes a successful person succeed, in how they think and act. These levels are different ways to evaluate the thought processes of the person being modelled.

I did my interview with Yaro Starak and have been very happy with the feedback I received from comments on the blog. It sounds like I did a reasonable job in talking with him and finding out a small part of what makes him tick. Alastair suggested I may do something similar with him so we thought about a subject that would be useful and maybe even entertaining. Alastair’s first suggestion was that he was very well organised, which is something I am not. His second suggestion was that we talk about one of his passions that is keeping and rearing rare breed chickens. After a couple of days thinking that over I decided that maybe the most useful topic would be to model Alastair on his coaching and NLP business. If you would like me to do the organisation or chickens modelling, please let me know.

NLP LOGICAL LEVELS

1. Spirituality/Purpose

This can be seen as being part of a bigger system. What impact are they having on the community or culture in which they work?

2. Identity/Mission

Who are they as an individual? What role do they play in achieving their purpose? How do they think of themselves?

3. Beliefs & Values

Why do they do what they do? What do they believe in?

4. Capabilities/Strategies

How do they get things done? What are their most useful capabilities, skills, strategies?

5. Behaviours

What are their behaviours? How do they go about achieving things?

6. Environment

Where, how and with whom do they demonstrate these behaviours? What are the external influences that play a part in what they do?

I hope you can see that all these logical levels play a part in how you work and succeed and are essential elements in the success of the people you want to model and reproduce in terms of their purpose, identity, beliefs, strategies, behaviours and the environment in which they work.

Cindy asked me a very interesting question I want to share with you now. She asked how it is possible to use the logical levels when the clients are anonymous to you and you never meet them.

I discussed this with Alastair who suggests you think about the logical levels as what your customers will want from your product. For example what impact is your product or service having on the community or how does it fit in with the beliefs your clients may have.

This approach uses what you may have found out about your customers in marketing before you launch your product. So instead of using the levels to look at a person, think about the effects your product or service will have on the people that buy and use it.

    I hope that helps :)
